Re: Rover P3 Radiator Grill Finish !!
In the UK Halfords supply it in a spray can. A quick internet search brought up this Rover code - HNR Stone Grey 1987-1992.

Have you checked the "Extras" section?lakesrally wrote:I've now got my hands on my parts list. It only lists the stoneguard once so presumably it was only available in one colour. I think Rover Stone Grey looks right.
The P2 "Extras" section includs "Radiator grill shield" chrome plated. Part number T1914 10&12 HP, T1915 14&16 HP.
Re: Rover P3 Radiator Grill Finish !!
Might have been available for P2 but by the time they were building P3 times were tight, there is nothing like that in the 'Optional Equipment and Overhaul Kits' section of the P3 list.

Re: Rover P3 Radiator Grill Finish !!
The only P2 that originally donned chrome grill slats was the 20hp as far as I know and even then it was an expensive optional extra. I don't think chrome slats look right on the car as there is no colour contrast between the shroud and slats.
The 1939 salesman's brochure only mentions Stoneguard in Silver Enamel

Re: Rover P3 Radiator Grill Finish !!
The master parts list lists the default equipment and the extra equipment. And actually the radiator stoneguard of the 20 (1939-40) had a different part number (05655) than those of the 14&16 (04753).
The 20 chromed stoneguard was the default; for all other cars chrome was an extra.
There is a difference between the “normal” and the “extra” stoneguards not only by what they are coated with, but also by shape and material. The painted ones are made out of steel while the chromed are made of brass. The central separators are entirely different, and they are attached differently. Also the angle they are fixed at is different. Look at the pictures (the picture of the painted one has been taken last week at the RSR stand at NEC2013).

Re: Rover P3 Radiator Grill Finish !!
24-453 (Rover 10, 1947) has a painted grille. Since it is made out of simple sheet metal, we have come to the conclusion that it would be easier to make a replica rather than to fix the old one. The replica was zinc coated (galvanized) and then painted with silver paint, as written in the workshop manual. You can watch the pictures here: http://wp.me/pXLKy-1jm.
