I will try to obtain one an fit it and see if that is the problem, I suspect it has to help things, I will also inspect the wedges to see if they are stamped front also

Hi,
I know some cars 37/38 had no springs in steering system,
I've had a Rover that had one wedge fitted thick end front
and one side thin end front and it wasn't until I started to
strip down to put this right I noticed the spring had been fitted
the wrong way round, the spring mounting bolt is off centre and
the axle was at a slight angle to the chassis and crabbing down the road.
the last owner had the car for 4 years and said its always been like that !

this ha s been covered before. look for Front spring orientation.
