Nuts and bolts BSF or Whitworth

Hi
Can anybody tell me what the common nut and bolts sizes are on a P2 IE are they BSF or Whitworth, I have a need to replace quite a few including machine screws

I would like to buy an assortment so I always have some to hand, if somebody could point me in the right direction for thread sizes and possibly where I could get an assortment of nuts bolts machine screws it would be appreciated

Hello Mike. The majority are BSF. 1/4", 5/16" and 3/8" with some BSW and BA ( usually 2 ) thrown in.

I live near Namrick's Nut & Bolt Store in Hove, East Sussex who have large selections of all sizes, they make up packs. They can be found on the internet. All their standard items are high tensile.

I also buy stainless steel imperial nuts & bolts off ebay for special applications as Namricks are limited.

I keep stocks of all sizes and threads in my garage, about 20 or so of each including spring & plate washers, once a ' stock ' is built up its easy and relativey inexpensive to keep maintained.

The master parts list includes thread, size and a short explanation of the function of each nut and bolt. BSF is the default. As a rule, steel parts are connected with BSF thread and Aluminum parts with Withowrth. Therefore the studs which connect the bell housing to clutch housing, for example, are Withowrth on one end and BSF on the other.

All very good points, but make sure you use the correct high tensile grade of bolt or setscrew (and associated nut). This is critically important in steering components, like the bolts securing the brake back plates to the stub axles. Stainless steel looks shiny but most grades are considerably inferior in tensile strength to properly treated mild steel.
