P3 In Kent.
P3 In Kent.
Hi folks,
Just a little introduction - my name's Matt and I took over a long-stalled restoration of a P3 60 4-light last year. GFH 124 had been in York (latterly with my late father in law) for many a year with little or no progress. Prior to that it resided in the Leeds area I believe - it was at that point that much was done to the running gear and engine but that was probably 20 years ago.
I've made quite good progress thus far and am not a million miles away from having a driveable car, albeit looking 'shabby chic' in rusty primer and decayed leather with a big hole in the roof. I've spent many a happy hour rooting through boxes of bits and playing the "where does this bit go?" game...........
I have to say, that of all my various projects, the P3 is (mostly) an absolute pleasure to work on - solidly engineered and logically put together.
I've met up with a couple of Kentish P3 owners but if there's anyone local doing a similar project, I'd like to hear from you. I'll be looking for help now and again from members. The first question is: what does the extension bit between the rubber gearbox cover and the floor pan look like and what is it made of?
Cheers, Matt.

Hi Matt, welcome to the forum. Not quite sure what you mean by 'the extension bit', can you give more detail? The rubber gearbox cover sits on the floor. I can take some photos tomorrow if it helps.

The rubber gearbox tunnel sits on the wooden floor panels
on the passenger / drivers footwell. It is secured by several
screws through the rubber into the wooden floor. Chris C.

Re: P3 In Kent.
Thank you for the photos Stewart. It seems to be much simpler than I imagined - just a strip of steel and easy to fabricate. Thanks chaps! I'm sure I'll be posting further questions in the relevant bit of the forum. Pleased to see you're still on the Forum Tony - I'm making steady progress (engine running, electrics done, most bits now bolted on) and even built a new garage to accommodate this epic project!

I remember going to pick that up with Fred Bell. It was near Garforth. Did you get the Radio for it? It was on Don's Bench.

Hi Tony, yes I have the radio - a huge thing in a box? Not really looked at that yet - did it come with the car? I also have various photos of you and Fred with the P3 and one showing it loaded on a trailer before any work had been done. Was most of the work done by Fred or the chap in Garforth? Why didn't he finish what he started?

Re: P3 In Kent.
A lot of work was done by the chap in Garforth.
The radio was bought by Fred and I overhauled it, but it is the correct one for the P3. I have another one to do.
Incidentally Fred died a couple of months ago.
